Job Story: Helical Ground Anchors
In February, district and West Point leaders broke ground on a new $103.4 million junior high school to be built in West Point, Utah. The school is needed to accommodate the growing number of students in that part of Davis County.
A combination of Helical Ground Anchors, HGA Brackets and Pipe Braces were used on this tilt-up project.
The Helical Ground Anchors eliminate the need for hauling, handling and placing concrete deadmen. The anchors also provide a solution for the criss-crossing Pipe Brace locations needed to support the tilt-up panels, with documented capacity and loading for safety.
Since the tilt-up panel inserts and lifting sequence are preplanned, it’s easy to include the precise position of the Helical Ground Anchors at the same time. One of several regionally-based crews are even available to install the anchors or train the crew.
HGA Brackets are attached to the top of each Helical Ground Anchor. The bracket provides a simple connection point between the anchor and Pipe Brace. The Pipe Brace shoe bolts directly to the bracket, completing the tilt-up panel support.
The contractor said, “We love this method!” We couldn’t have said it any better.
